MISSION 


As the Head of Engineering, your primary focus is planning and directing all engineering activities. You will help build and improve processes, grow the team and provide expert technical guidance on engineering work.


LANGUAGES AND TOOLS 


2-3 years of experience managing teams of engineers 

4-6 years of web development experience using at least one backend language and framework (i.e. Django, Rails, Node). 

2-4 years experience in using Javascript and frontend frameworks/libraries (i.e. React, Vue, Angular, jQuery). 

Expert with HTML and CSS/SCSS. 

Proficient with SQL and data modeling. 

Proficient working with UNIX environments and managing infrastructure. 

Proficient Git and common branching strategies.


YOU ARE… 


Interested in new technologies and using the best languages, frameworks and libraries for a given project based on their benefits and the engineering team. Ability to pick up new technologies quickly and coach other engineers on them. 

Creative when it comes to problem solving and a full understanding of software engineering principles. 

Enjoys writing clean API specifications and collaborating with teams to align and create requirements. 

Strong architect, working to craft systems that are organized, flexible and maintainable. 

Committed to engineering best practices and making improvements across areas including rapid application development, software architecture, quality assurance, analytics, machine learning, and development operations. 

Able to concisely document all parts of a project and contribute to improvements in product development process. 

Leader in recruiting, building and maintaining strong teams. 

Capable mentor to engineers; able to jump in to help with their work and foster growth of their skill sets. 

Strong opinion on test coverage best practices and utilizing CI. 

Knowledgeable in caching, scaling and performance best practices. 

Collaborates with product managers and designers to offer insight into technical constraints and contribute solutions. Works with other department leaders to improve collaboration and process. 

Can work well with ambiguity and able to organize teams within Scrum or Kanban methodologies. Will contribute to internal best practices for development process. 

Ability to jump into anything and figure it out.


EXPECTATIONS 


If you choose to join us, these would be your goals for the year. 

Teams under management complete development tasks within 20% of the estimated time. 

Learn one new framework or core competency and train up at least one engineer. 

Improve development process in efficiency and effectiveness. 

Improve and document requirements for engineering documentation and process. 

Improve the accuracy of engineering scopes during sales and new customer acquisition and represent engineering in those conversations.
