The Senior Software Engineer will be a key member of the team, reporting directly to the CEO. We’re looking for talented engineers to design and develop novel features for our innovative online classroom platform. As one of the founding members of our small team, your role will evolve with your growing interests and skill set.

Applicants should be passionate about education and excited about Foundry’s mission to provide students with an education that aligns skills and knowledge with the jobs of today and tomorrow. Successful applicants should also have experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, excellent communication and leadership skills, and a strong work ethic. Joining us at this stage means you will have the opportunity to help lead the development of our learning platform and define the future of Foundry’s technology.

You’ll be working onsite at our San Francisco office, located near the Montgomery Bart station or, if qualified, remotely from your home office.

What you’ll be doing:

• Design and develop features for an online classroom platform that is truly first of its kind

• Identify new technologies and best practices for our growing engineering team

• Improve application performance on both the client and server sides

• Incorporate user feedback to design and build a better product

• Ensure that our platform features work at an ever-growing scale

How you’ll be doing it:

• You’ll be part of growing a world-class, multidisciplinary engineering team, where each member identifies and prioritizes important and interesting new features to work on.

• You will operate in a collaborative but highly autonomous environment that isn’t bogged down by unnecessary meetings or project management.

• You will know that almost everything you build affects real world people, and you will set the quality standards for your work appropriately.

• You will think creatively and your suggestions about new features and ideas will be treated se-riously.

• You will have direct access to instructors and be able to iterate on your features based on their feedback.

• You’ll be working with modern technologies like React, Node.js, Linux, Nginx, Github, TokBox, AWS, DynamoDB and Redis.

• You will learn a lot, and laugh a lot, with a seat on a rocket ship that will truly help make this a better world.

What you’ll bring to the table:

• You have a strong handle on JavaScript development, even if you don’t know every single JS feature and quirk.

• You are a self starter who can prioritize what to work on and fully design, build, and write tests for new features.

• You are experienced in Server-side technologies and understand Node and O(n) and how to manage and optimize network and machine resources.

• You are experienced in Client-side technologies and understand React and you have an eye for design and an understanding for what can make a user interface more intuitive and delight-ful.

• You can show that you’re smart, analytical, and a fast learner.

• There aren’t any strict requirements for your background, but you’re technical. Maybe you have a degree. Maybe you’re a bootcamp grad with a STEM background and strong portfolio. Maybe you're self taught with a few years of industry experience.

• It’s a plus if you have experience in areas that might be relevant to a startup working on edtech, serverless containers, data visualization, streaming video, scaling web applications, DevOps, etc…
